PROLOGUE and/or EPILOGUE
My Greatest Race : Bloemfontein, South Africa 1964
At Easter 1964 my dad, Ray a lady friend and I made the long trip up-country from Cape Town to Bloemfonein. via Colesburg in the semi-arid Karoo towing my midget racing car. The reason for the trip was a big one : after racing for about 4 years against local drivers in the Westen Cape I was to test my skills against the best drivers in the rest of the country (of whom I knew nothing) at the South African Championships. I think I was the only driver from the local club, the SMRC (the Suburban Midget Racing Club) to race in Bloemfontein at Easter 1964.
When we arrived at the track a few cars were circulating and I remember distinctly I was astounded at their speed whizzing followed by clouds of dust on the dirt-track (or cinder )…
